Description

Little Rock - America's Newest Destination:

A dynamic state capital, Little Rock, Arkansas offers an animated nightlife, a lively downtown convention and entertainment district, a wealth of unique sightseeing, day trip and tour opportunities, outstanding restaurants, shopping and accommodation choices, museums, and one-of-a-kind attractions like the new William J. Clinton Presidential Center & Park.

Celebrated as President Clinton’s first capital city, the cradle of the civil rights movement, and the center of the beautiful Natural State – no city better represents a bridge from the cherished past to the exhilarating 21st century than Little Rock.

Some History:

In 1673, the first European explorers to journey through the Arkansas River wilderness came across the friendly Quapaw Indians. Nine years later the eminent La Salle Expedition landed at "La Petite Roche," the little rock resting along the feral banks of the Arkansas.

French and Spanish expeditions followed, but even as late as 1819, when the Arkansas territory was created, the Little Rock area was still just wilderness. The charming bluffs of "La Petite Roche," did not go unnoticed for too long. Little Rock became the seat of the new territorial government in 1821 and in 1831 was incorporated as a city. Little Rock became the capital of the state of Arkansas in 1836.
