Day One – Arrive Virginia Beach
Arrive and check in to our local hotel. Tonight, drive along the Chick-Fil-A Holiday in Lights at the Beach. With more than 250 light displays using over 400,000 bulbs, Virginia Beach shines for 25 blocks. Delight in this two-mile illuminated journey surrounded by festive fish, colorful sailboats, jumping dolphins and Santa Claus himself in a variety of animated nautical and holiday themes. Afterwards, sail on the Spirit of Norfolk, where two enclosed decks and a 187-foot vessel give the feel of going on an ocean-going cruise. Enjoy a dinner and dancing as we sail along the coast. (D)
Day Two – Norfolk Naval Station – New Year’s Gala
Enjoy a buffet breakfast at our hotel this morning before a tour of the Norfolk Naval Station. This is homeport to more than 80 ships of the Atlantic Fleet, and the world’s largest naval installation. Narrated guided bus tours pass by Atlantic Fleet training centers, aircraft carriers, cruisers and destroyers, amphibious assault vessels and sleek submarines. A strip of preserved historic homes from the 1907 Jamestown Exposition is included on the 45-minute tour. Later this afternoon, depart for Jamestown Settlement where a guided tour awaits. Jamestown Settlement commemorates the first permanent English settlement in the New World. It features full-size replicas of the ships that arrived in 1607, as nearly reconstructed as possible to show the size and hardships the hardy settlers had to face. The reconstructed Jamestown Fort is unique and seems to come to life with the costumed interpreters present to perform 17th century activities, and interact with the crowds. Don’t miss the Indian village and wonderful museum exhibits. Roughly 400 years ago these merchant ships embarked from England across the Atlantic Ocean to America, a voyage that would later set the course of American history. Learn about these ambitious pioneers and the hardships they faced. Join in the celebration of a Jamestown Christmas. Experience early Christmas traditions and holiday festivities as the earliest settlers might have enjoyed. Later, return to the hotel to prepare for the evening. Tonight’s New Year’s Eve Gala begins at 7:00 p.m. There are a variety of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres artfully displayed. Enjoy the cascading display of cheeses, vegetables, fruits, crackers, and dips. Our elegant dinner includes a variety of salads, three entrée choices of beef, seafood, and chicken accompanied by two vegetables, two starches, bread, sauces, and beverages. After dinner, be entertained by a live band performing in the multi-level nouveau gallery complete with a stage, two cash bars, two fireplaces, and plenty of party and dancing room, before a midnight Happy New Year Champagne Toast and late night coffee bars and wonderful dessert displays available. Day Three – Colonial Williamsburg – Home
Enjoy a buffet breakfast at our hotel this morning before checking out and departing for Colonial Williamsburg on own (no tickets included to enter the buildings). Colonial Williamsburg is a visual treat during the holiday season. See the myriad on natural holiday decorations as the hearty colonial might have used. Bring your cameras. This is a photographers dream. Merchants Square is the shopping hub of downtown Colonial Williamsburg. Located at the head of Duke of Gloucester Street, the gateway to Colonial Williamsburg, Merchants Square includes many fine stores and restaurants. (B)
