Day 1 – Topeka, Kansas
Explore elaborate murals depicting Kansas history on a must-see tour of the Kansas State Capitol. Admission is free. Venture to Marion Lane Candles where groups can pour their own candles for $5-$8. Across the street, sample handmade truffles, fudge, and caramel apples at Hazel Hill Chocolate Traditions. Take a short drive to Gallery Classic, direct importers of European antiques, home décor, and gifts at fabulous prices. The building itself is a unique antique -- it’s a converted 1907 stone dairy barn. Journey back to the hotel to freshen up for an evening at Topeka Civic Theatre. Enjoy a delightful dinner and an award-winning performance at the oldest dinner theater in the country! TCT features comedies, dramas, and Broadway musicals, and offers both dinner and non-dinner shows. Groups receive discounted tickets. Behind-the-scenes tours and a party room for pre-show festivities are also available.
Day 2 – Topeka, Kansas
Start the morning with breakfast at the hotel, followed by a tour of the Kansas Museum of History. This award-winning museum features exhibits and stories about colorful characters from Kansas. Admission is $4 for a guided tour or $3 for a self-guided tour. Board the bus and enjoy a drive through the Kansas countryside to explore the local the lavender fields. Kansas Lavender features open field tours, samples of foods made with lavender, and lavender products for purchase. Admission is free, but a donation is recommended. All aboard and full speed ahead to Great Overland Station. A catered lunch will be served by the infamous Harvey girls. Tour this former Union Pacific Station, recently restored to its 1920s glamour. The lunch and tour is $18. Venture across the river to Old Prairie Town, a five acre pioneer village complete with botanical gardens. The $4 guided tour features an 1870s prairie mansion and a physician’s and dentist’s office. Unwind at Potwin Drug Store with a refreshing “Green River” beverage or try some Brown Bread ice cream. Head back to the hotel for some relaxation, or prepare for an evening out on the town.
Day 3 – Topeka, Kansas
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then journey to Combat Air Museum, home of 32 aircraft from WWI to the present day, extensive artifacts, and military aviation art. Admission is $5. The historical tour continues at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site & Museum. This interactive, experiential museum offers free admission. Venture up the road to the Charles Curtis House Museum. Charles Curtis was vice president for Herbert Hoover. Guided tours are $5. The Topeka tour concludes with an elegant lunch at The Woodward Inns on Fillmore. Meals are made from scratch and groups can choose between a three-course buffet style meal for $28, or a formal five-course meal served by The Woodward butler on cobalt blue and gold dinner ware for $36 for lunch or $42 for dinner. The price includes a tour of this 1925 luxury inn featuring Gothic English Tudor-style architecture with original floor-to-ceiling stained glass and imported stone and tile.
