March 11-18, 2008

DAY ONE - DEPART U.S. We’ll depart on our overnight transatlantic flight to Ireland from the U.S.

DAY TWO – DUBLIN- Arrive in Dublin where we’ll be transferred to our Hotel in the heart of Ireland’s majestic capital. This afternoon we’ll enjoy an introductory driving tour to this most vibrant of cities including Phoenix Park, Trinity College and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Later, we’ll visit the Guinness Brewery. This evening, there will be a welcome dinner. (D)

DAY THREE - COBH We’ll journey south today through the middle of Ireland viewing the impressive Rock of Cashel on our way to County Cork. We’ll stop for a tour of the world-famous Jasmeson Irish Whiskey Distillery before we head west to Cobh. Cobh was the last port of call for many ships heading to the USA, including the ‘Titanic’ and the heritage center here depict the history of immigration from Ireland to the ‘new world’. We’ll continue to Cork and our home for the next two nights. (B,D)

DAY FOUR - BLARNEY STONE/ FARMHOUSE VISIT Today we’ll travel to Blarney Castle, where we’ll have a chance to kiss the fabled stone and gain the “gift of eloquence.” We’ll also have a chance to shop at the Blarney woolen mills a ‘mecca’ for all gifts Irish! Leaving Blarney we’ll make our way to County Cork where we’ll meet locals Tom and Dolores and be invited to their farmhouse for traditional Irish coffees and some good old-fashioned story telling. We’ll return to Cork for our overnight. (B,D)

DAY FIVE - CLIFFS OF MOHER/ BURREN Heading north we’ll enter the Burren, one of the most remarkable geological formations in Ireland, and home the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. We’ll witness the incredible 700 ft wall of rock that rises from the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll make a lunch stop, on your own, at one of the most famous pubs in Ireland, and then follow the coastline, passing spectacular beaches, sensational surf and mystical graveyards, en route to Galway and our hotel for the next three nights. (B,D)

DAY SIX - ISLAND OF INISHMORE Today we catch the ferry from Galway Bay to the Island of Inishmore (Great Island), part of the Aran Island chain. We’ll tour the Island and learn more about the mostly Irish-speaking islanders, including their fishing boats or currachs, which are made from tarred canvas. Our local guide will regale us with tales of life as an Islander, as we journey along the single track roads. (B,D)

DAY SEVEN – ST. PATRICK’S DAY in GALWAY St. Patrick’s Day will be spent in the lovely city of Galway, We’ll start the day with a walking tour of the medieval Quay St., known as the ‘City of Tribes’ and learn more about the families that ruled this most cosmopolitan of trading ports. We’ll even see where Columbus departed on his ‘mystery tour’ into the new world! We’ll then take our vantage point for the most traditional of all St. Patrick’s Day parades as we view area dance troupes, children’s groups and even pets, all bedecked in green. After the parade, the Irish continue the celebration in the parks, pubs and shops. Enjoying a lovely day together is part of the celebration! Tonight a surprise farewell dinner is included for our last evening in Ireland. (B,D)

DAY EIGHT - SHANNON/ RETURN TO U.S. After breakfast, we’ll be transferred to Shannon Airport for your flight back to the U.S. (B)
