Tour Dates:
Number of Days: 4
DAY 1: Explore the oceanfront with King Neptune
PM: Bring the kids to the 3-mile long Boardwalk to explore on foot, or
all together on a 4- or 6-seat surrey bike. Stop for a photo in front of
the King Neptune Statue. He’s 12 tons of magnificence, rising 34 feet
above the boardwalk, with an 11-foot sea turtle and two 15-foot dolphins
by his side. For dinner, rock the beach and tell the kids about
the Fab Four at Rockfish on the Boardwalk, home of the world’s greatest
collection of authentic Beatles memorabilia. [D]
DAY 2: Lighthouses and the Chesapeake Bay
AM: Enjoy breakfast at the Pocahontas Pancake House, a local family
favorite. Next, climb to the top of the old and new Cape Henry
Lighthouses, where the nation’s first federally funded lighthouse began
serving faithfully in 1792.
PM: After lunch at the Purple Cow, treat yourselves to their signature
purple ice cream, then spend the afternoon exploring nature at the
Chesapeake Bay Center. Return to the oceanfront to while away the
evening along Atlantic Avenue shopping for beach souvenirs. [B,L]
DAY 3: Discover the ocean’s depths
AM: After breakfast at the hotel, spend the morning with the creatures
of the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, along with over 350
hands-on exhibits and the spectacular IMAX® 3D Theater. Be sure to
catch the harbor seals - Peter, Piper, Phoca, Pongo and Norton – at
feeding time.
PM: After lunch at Jake’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, charter a headboat
for an afternoon of fishing. Don’t worry about the rod and reel – it’s all
included. Or if you left your sea legs at home, hop on a dolphin or
whale watching excursion at Virginia Aquarium. After a day at sea, take
your catch to Croc’s 19th Street Bistro or Waterman’s Surfside Grille and
let them prepare your “Catch & Cook” meal. [B,L,D]
DAY 4: Wings of the past and the future
AM: After a hearty breakfast at Doc Taylor’s, once a working doctor’s
office, wow the kids with a visit to Naval Air Station Oceana Master Jet
Base, home to more than 250 jets, including the F/A-18 Hornets.
PM: Have lunch with real American heroes at the Officer’s Club, then
take your group to Hunt Club Farm for a hayride, petting zoo and farm
market. If you’re up for more, check out Warbirds Over the Beach’s
WWII aircraft. [B,L]
