Day 1
Discover the unexpected in Shreveport-Bossier: Louisiana’s Other Side. Located in the northwest corner of the state, Shreveport-Bossier, blends spicy Louisiana flair with East Texas flavor.
Louisiana's Other Side has a generous helping of natural beauty. For a look into the area's colorful splendor and artistic accomplishments, visitors can take this Galleries and Gardens Tour during the spring or fall, for the best shot at experiencing luscious flora.
Start your tour with a memorable boat ride on Spirit of the Red River Tours. Drift down the Red River while Captain Sam Flood tells about the city’s history and natural wildlife in this guided boat tour through the downtown area.
Next stop is the Southern University Museum of Art, a grand collection of more than 2,000 pieces of African and African-American art. Then, indulge in the beauty of tropical, seasonal and native plants at The Barnwell Garden & Art Center, and get lost in a world of exotic art when you visit the gallery's exhibits of nationally known artists and local talent. Don’t miss another downtown point-of-interest: the Once in a Millennium Moon Mural, the nation's largest public arts mural.
Ready for lunch? Head to Line Avenue and eat the Glenwood Village Tea Room, known for their authentic British Tea service, as well as delicious breakfasts and lunches.
Continue your tour at R.W. Norton Art Gallery, which sits in a 40-acre landscaped park and houses the Southwest's largest permanent collection of American Western paintings by Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. The gallery also comes to life every spring with one of the largest azalea gardens in the South.
Take advantage of being in the famous Line Avenue shopping district, which has more than 75 specialty shops. Antique shops and boutiques mean you’ll probably go back home with a bit more in your suitcase than you planned!
After a rest at the hotel, you’ll be ready for a night on the town! Start with dinner at group-friendly Ralph & Kacoo’s. Enjoy a variety of Cajun cuisines, Gulf Coast seafood, shrimp, crab, crawfish platters, charbroiled fish and steaks. Then, test your luck at one of our five Vegas-Style riverboat casinos. Is a show more your style? The historical Strand Theater in Shreveport features local and Broadway spectaculars.
Day 2
Top off your garden tour with a stroll through the American Rose Center, the nation's largest rose garden and home to more than 20,000 roses in 60 individual gardens. Stop by the gift shop full of hundreds of items of interest to the rose connoisseur and take something special home. To see the roses in full splendor, visit during April for Spring Bloom and October for Fall Bloom.
Next visit the Libbey Glass Factory Outlet. Shop over 14,000 square feet of beautiful glassware, dinnerware, flatware, and everything you need to dress up your home.
Don’t travel home on an empty stomach! Head across the Texas Street bridge to the Louisiana Boardwalk for lunch. Situated on the Red River in Bossier City, it has more than 60 outlet stores and restaurants.
