Tour Dates:
Number of Days: 7
Day 1- Québec City
Québec has a culinary history of mixing old world recipes with native ingredients and new world techniques. Work up an appetite with a walking tour of cobblestone streets or the old ramparts of the city. Dine on traditional Québec cuisine in the ambiance of an ancestral home.
Day 2: Île d’Orleans
Discover the Island of Orleans’ thousand treasures and traditions that date back more than three centuries. Visit apple orchards, vineyards, artisan cheese manufacturers, and farms for tasting and tours. Enjoy a gastronomy lunch at Domaine Steinbach, a bio-certified farm operation. Return to Québec City for dinner, perhaps followed by drinks at the historic Chateau Frontenac.
Day 3: Beaupré Coast - Charlevoix
Traveling east along the Route of New France, we’ll stop in Beaupré for visits to Petit Pré Mill, bread ovens Chez Marie, and Honey Museum. Lunch at Manoir Montmorency at the top of the waterfall, or dine at a microbrewery in the Beaupré region. We’ll spend the evening in one of Charlevoix’s fabulous inns, where our chef will create a picture perfect repast. The Casino of Charlevoix is open late for any who want to test their luck.
Day 4 – Charlevoix - Isle-aux-Coudres
After a leisurely breakfast, wander the gardens or indulge in the great views from our windows. Lunch at the Maison du Bootlegger speakeasy. Tour local cheese producers and Fumoir Charlevoix smokehouse for seafood products cured the traditional way. A ferry crossing to Isle-aux-Coudres will take us to Milling Museum and Perneault Orchard for guided visits. We’ll have a chef’s tour or demonstration at our inn.
Day 5- Baie Saint Paul
Back on the mainland, we’ll visit Serres Lacoste tomato hot houses and Jardins du Centre. Baie-Saint-Paul is not only a great stop for gastronomy lunches at the inns, but the 2007 Cultural Capital of Canada. We’ll have enough time to visit the galleries and craft boutiques. Cheese, chocolates, and micro-brews are all on the sampling menu this afternoon. Dinner at a sugar shack will show us the maple syrup process, entertainment, and traditional cuisine.
Day 6 – Drummondville to Montréal
Enter the world of herbalism and essential oils at Aliksir. Rose Drummond, Canada’s largest producer of roses, is just across the bridge. At L’Angélaine angora goat ranch we’ll be goat herders and enjoy a country picnic. At l’Ancêtre Cheese Factory we’ll see organic cheeses being made. We’ll continue along the old Kings’ Road to Domaine de l’Île Ronde, a beautiful island vineyard for tour and dinner. We’ll arrive in at our hotel after a drive through Montréal’s Old Port.
Day 7 – Montréal
A morning tour of Marché Jean-Talon may lead to reunions with the producers we’ve met earlier in our week. Lunch is iconic smoked meat sandwiches and poutine fries. Spend the afternoon at the Botanical Garden, or feed your soul at one of Montreal’s art museums. Make reservations early for one of Montreal’s fine restaurants – there are hundreds from which to choose.
