Day #1
The tour begins on the southern portion of Flathead Lake in Polson, MT. Enjoy the quaint shops and galleries of downtown Polson, before hitting the links for a quick 9 holes of golf at the Polson Country Club. A Flathead Valley favorite for decades, Polson Bay Golf Club’s twenty seven breathtaking holes boast spectacular lake and mountain views and comprise the only golf course located on the shores of Flathead Lake. After lunch at the club house, hop on board the “Princess” at the Best Western KwaTaqNuk Resort on Flathead Lake for a Wild horse Island Cruise (3 hr). Wild Horse Island is the largest island on Flathead Lake. The 2700 acre island is home to bighorn sheep, bald eagles, bear, deer, numerous songbirds and fittingly, several wild horses. After the cruise, the tour continues north on Hwy 35 to the charming town of Bigfork for dinner and overnight accommodations.
Day #2
Chosen as “One of the 50 Great Towns of the West” and designated as “One of the 100 Best Small Art Towns of the Nation,” Bigfork offers you and your family a part of the West that you will never forget.
Start your day with a quick stroll down the Swan river Nature Trail just blocks from downtown that follows the shores of the Swan River. Spend the morning touring the art galleries and boutiques then hit the links again at the Eagle Bend Golf Club, one of the premiere golf courses in the Northwest. After a quick bite at the clubhouse, head down the road to Flathead Lake Lodge where you can hop aboard the “Questa” for a sunset sailing tour of Flathead Lake.
Day #3
After breakfast it’s time to go fishing! A-Able Fishing will take you out for a half day charter fishing trip for lake trout. Mackinaw Lake Trout thrive in the cold, clear, well oxygenated water of Flathead Lake in Northwest Montana. Flathead Lake has depths of up to 380 feet and has the rocky gravel bottom that Lake Trout prefer. Grab a picnic lunch and head out to travel around the rest of Flathead Lake. Stop at any one of the six state parks around the lake to enjoy your picnic lunch and possibly take a quick swim. As you travel around the lake, you will go through the towns of Somers, Lakeside and Dayton (where you can stop by the Mission Mountain Winery for a free sample); concluding your tour where it began, in Polson.
