Tour Dates:

Number of Days: 7

DAY 1:
Seven Days of Wonder. On this adventure you ride six trains, circling
Colorado. Hopping from one train to another you steam through one
mountain pass after another by bus, Jeep and locomotive. It’s incredible.
It’s fun. Denver lodging is included. Call us if you need help with
airfare, motorcoach or Amtrak. Dinner on own.
DAY 2:
Leaving Denver once the sun lights your day, you ride the Georgetown
Loop Railroad. The Rockies tower over you as this steam locomotive
roars up the canyon past old silver mines, over the Devils Gate High
Bridge to the famous Lebanon Silver Mine. Here guides escort you 500
feet deep into the mine, pointing at rich veins of silver and discussing
mining techniques of the 1870s. With continued westward travel you
enjoy lodging and a Colorado Winemakers Dinner in Grand Junction.
DAY 3:
Maybe the most exciting day of your trip, it begins with four-wheeling
over 12,200-foot Corkscrew Pass. This spectacular Jeep tour climbs
through the mining country of the Red Mountains and across to Silverton.
Your afternoon is onboard the Silverton-Durango Railroad, traveling
south along the Animas River through breathtaking canyons into the
wilderness of the San Juans. It is one of America’s most famous trains.
Meet your motorcoach in Durango and overnight in Pagosa Springs.
DAY 4:
Eastward this morning to Chamas, N.M., and the Cumbres & Toltec
Railroad. This 64-mile ride is the finest example of steam era, mountain
railroading in America. The equipment, depots and landscape exist
today as if frozen in the early 20th century. A hot lunch is included midway
at Osier Station. In Antonito, Colo., you change trains, boarding The
Toltec Limited for a short ride through the San Luis Valley to Alamosa.
Again your motorcoach and a comfortable hotel are waiting.
DAY 5:
Eastbound this morning on the San Luis Express, you wind through
agricultural flatlands to colorful foothills then over La Veta Pass (the highest
point at which any railroad crosses the Colorado Rockies.) Enjoy the
town of La Veta, filled with quaint shops and cafes, before we turn
north to Colorado Springs (two nights). The Garden of the Gods will
be your afternoon fascination. Then, dinner is at Giuseppe’s Old Depot
Restaurant.
DAY 6:
This morning at the foot of Pikes Peak you tour the Manitou Cliff
Dwellings, a rare historical treasure built more than 700 years ago.
Then your afternoon is a round trip ride on Pikes Peak Cog Railroad,
the highest railroad in America; it’s 14,110 feet to the summit. Dinner
is at the Flying W Ranch, a real chuck-wagon meal with music by the
Flying W Wranglers.
DAY 7:
Depart for home. Priced at less than $1,000, this package includes six
nights’ hotels, six breakfasts, three dinners, two lunches and you receive one free with every 16 paid.
